Moving to Indonesia

Passports which will expire within three months will not hold as sufficient documentation for those looking to enter Indonesia. Citizens from some countries do not require anything else to visit Indonesia as a tourist, but those from abroad will need to acquire a visa beforehand from an Indonesian consulate or embassy found in their home land.

The procedure for getting one's application approved might last a few months. Requirements include proof of adequate funding, proof of return flight, proof of medical insurance coverage, proof of hostel stay or other accommodation, and the visa processing fee.

A residence visa is needed to live in Indonesia, and a work visa is needed to have a job in Indonesia. Apart from visitor visas which are good for foreigners to enter into Indonesia for 90 days, there are an assortment of special visas such as the business visa, student visa, work visa, residence permit, research and film visas. The research visa applies to people who are trying to come to Indonesia to explore an archaeological site. The film visa is intended for visitors who are filming movies on location in Indonesia. The latter two visas are not issued by consulates but by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
